And holy kaiju! (or Daikaiju if you want to get technical.) Was it what I wanted to see from a movie where massive robots beat up a bunch kaiju. And while my inner scientist is still chewing on it's labcoat in pure rage and frustration, hoping that he can choke on it so he can forget what the movie did to physics and normal sciences. It was a satisfying film with a better story then I expected from it.
I'm still kinda bummed out about some dumb decisions the characters made in the movie. But I won't talk about the majority of those since I don't think we got a spoiler tag here on the site.
One thing I'm going to rant about is how my favorite jaeger. (the giant robots.) Cherno alpha (the russian build one. Spot the pun in that name ) was just plain misused to give the main robot a bigger part to play. No problem with that on my own. But now the entire buildup that let the russian crew that piloted it and the robot itself seem like awesome manifest(oldest still functioning jaeger, Held the coast of Vladivostok for 6 years without a single kaiju making it within a few miles of it, Killed 6 kaiju on it's own as a mark I. (most mark I jaegers barely have two kills, at the time of the movie they are up to mark V robot.) Pilots with the most experience and the longest possible operating time, etc.) was just plain throw away to show how big the threat was. The pilots didn't even get a decent line in. That's just sad. His design really looked awesome as well.
If that robot doesn't breathe awesome and intimidating in your eyes. You should get them checked
Anyway I'm gonna stop ranting about how that robot should have gotten not only more screentime but also more of a role in the movie.
I really liked Pacific rim. Unlike transformers where the action was horribly put on the screen and the story made you laugh because how bad it was. Pacific rim has awesome fightscenes, a dark sense of humor that brings a smile to your faces even in the most stressful moments, visuals that are put on the screen in ways that lets your jaw drop to the floor a story and characters that, while not winning any prizes anytime soon. Will keep you engaged and gives meaning to the action.
If you got some time I recommend you watch it!
A warning for the Australians though. There are 2 australian characters in the movie and their accents are just plain horrible.
